Named after a jockey, Samuel Chifney (1753-1807), this 19th Century curb bit has swinging cheekpieces and a port. It also has loose rings which would allow it to be used like a pelham, with both snaffle and curb function. One cheekpiece is stamped "St Martins Lane" and I can just make out "Latchford" stamped on the other.
There is a little more information on Chifney in my blog
Dimensions : Mouthpiece 5" (125mm), cheeks 7½"
