A hand forged steel Mexican curb bit. There is a high port. There is a groove on one side of the mouthpiece, it may once have been inlaid with another metal, today it is painted. The cheeks have "tear" shaped openings. On one cheek a silver coin has been used for decoration, it reads "Estados Unidos Mexicanos", no date is visible, but it must be later than Mexican independence in 1821 There are rein chains and a curb chain.
