A pad cheek steel bit dating from between 1910 and 1936, when George V was on the throne.
It has a low port and the mouthpiece is faintly stamped "P.Hil...Son" and "...wich", I have not been able to identify the maker or saddler.
The cheeks are curved, there is a curved shackle bar. There is a cheek boss on each side of the bit. Each cheek boss is cast "GvR", indicating that the bit dates from the reign of George V, there is also a garter that reads "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense" and a King Edward crown.
The bit has its original curb hooks
Dimensions : mouthpiece 12.5cm (5"), cheeks 20cm (8") not including rein loops
