A Victorian branch cheek steel bit. It has a medium port. I can see no maker's marks or stamps.
The cheeks are curved each bears a rein loop, there is a curved shackle bar. There is a cheek boss on each side of the bit. Each cheek boss is cast with crossed lances & the number 4.
A garter around the edge of the boss or badge reads "Cavalry Hyderabad Contingent".
The Hyderabad Contingent were part of the British Army in India from the late 18th century until 1903.
