
A wooden mouthpiece with a central hole could keep a horses mouth open and allow the administration of "drenches" (liquid medication) or pills. A leather strap secured the gag over the horse poll (the top of its head).
There is much old woodworm damage but it has all been treated. It is stamped "Arnold & Son, London". This company are still making veterinary equipment today.
