A wooden saddle, covered in birch bark. I have been told that this is a 19th Century Indian saddle, or Japanese (unlikely), but most recently and most likely from Turkmenistan or Persia. It is painted over the bark with roses and geometric designs. It is also decorated with strips of bone around its edges. There is quite a lot of wear on the seat of the saddle, and some of the bone strips are missing Ref : saddle002 |
