A wooden saddle from Tibet. This has been much used and repaired (see the metal plate on its underside). It is constructed of wood held together by rawhide ties. It is decorated with iron inlaid with silver. Once it would have had red lacquer on its front arch - this has been painted over red . On the back of the cantle there is still some sharkskin, which may have covered more of the saddle. Skins and textiles would have been attached to the seat. I am not sure of the age of this, it is probably early twentieth Century. Ref : saddle006 |
