These spurs are made of solid sterling silver. They have sharp steel rowels that turn freely. The necks are curved. Each arm of the heel band ends in a shaped hinged piece. Both sides of the spurs have three lengths of handmade silver chain. The chains attach on one side to two buttons, and on the other side to a button and buckle.
The inside of the heel is hallmarked with the lion in a shield for sterling silver, a crowned leopard's head in a shield for London, a sovereign's head duty mark, and an upper case "R" in a shield, indicating the year 1812. There is also a maker's stamp "J.A" (? Atkins or Angell). The marks are rubbed on one of the spurs, the buckles are also hallmarked.
