A Pair of Georgian silver spurs, hallmarked 1820

These spurs are made of solid sterling silver. They have sharp steel rowels that turn freely. The necks turn slightly downwards. Each arm of the heel band bears two silver buttons, a hinged silver buckle hangs from one side of each spur. The buckles have a steel central prong or tongue and a silver heart-shaped insert.

These are fine quality spurs

The inside of each spur is hallmarked, but not all of the stamps are legible. There is a lion in a shield for sterling silver, a crowned leopard's head in a shield for London, a sovereign's head duty mark (faint), and a lower case "e" in a shield, indicating the year 1820 . This was the year when the Regency ended & George IV came to the throne. There is no maker's stamp.

Dimensions : 4¼" (110mm) maximum length x 2¾" (76mm) wide, not including buttons ), 1¼" (32mm) neck, ½" (12mm) rowel
Weight : 89g (2¾oz)
