A well made pair of fine spurs in silver. These spurs have narrow rounded heel bands, quite long necks and small rowels.
They would have been held onto the boot by spur straps, attached by studs on each arm of the spur. A large, rounded silver buckle is attached to one side of each spur.
The spurs were a prize for a horse race in 1906, one year after Norway gained independence. They are engraved around the heel band (I don't speak Norwegian and cannot read all of the inscription)
" Druminen 16.9.06 Thorleif Bache" and "Kosak 3 die Prem... 1000m Fl..."
The buckles are a very Scandinavian rounded shape. They are stamped "SW" (the silversmith) and "830S" - the standard mark for Norwegian silver, modern Norwegian silver is 925 parts per thousand, the same standard as sterling, but antique silver from the region is generally 830.
