Pair of Decorated Officers Dress Spurs

These are silver plated with steel inserts which would fit into "boxes" in the heel of the boot. The arms and straight necks of the spurs are embossed with roses, thistles and shamrocks. The rowels are similarly decorated. Each neck is stamped "Maxwell" (a famous London boot & spurmaker). The steel parts of the spurs are also stamped with Maxwell's early 20th century address , 9, Dover Street, London. There are a few small scratches on the spurs, probably where they have struck each other.

Very similar spurs can be seen in Charles de Lacy Lacy's 1902 book "The History of the Spur"

Internal width 7.2cm (approx 2¾"), neck 6cm (2¼"), rowel 2.5cm (1")
