A Pair of 18th Century Georgian silver spurs, hallmarked 1799

These spurs are made of solid sterling silver. They have sharp steel rowels that turn freely. The necks are curved. Each arm of the heel band ends in a silver button, a hinged silver buckle hangs from one side of each spur. The buckles are hallmarked on their reverse sides.

These are fine quality, lightweight spurs. Perhaps for racing use?

The inside of each spur is clearly hallmarked with the lion in a shield for sterling silver, a crowned leopard's head in a shield for London, a sovereign's head duty mark, and an upper case "D" in a shield, indicating the year 1799. There is also a maker's stamp "H V" I have not been able to identify this maker but I have another pair of spurs with the same mark (Spur147 ).

Dimensions : 4¼" (110mm) maximum length, not including buckle x 3" (76mm) wide, not including buttons ), 1¼" (32mm) neck, ½" (12mm) rowel
Weight : 105g (3¾oz)
