A Pair of Late 18th Century silver spurs with lion masks

These silver spurs probably date from around 1780 . They have sharp steel rowels that turn freely. The rowels are attached horizontally, which is unusual. The necks are straight. Each arm of the heel band ends in a scallopped edge. Both sides of the spurs have four lengths of handmade silver chain. The four sets of chains attach to silver lion masks. On one side of each spur two buttons hang from the lion, and on the other side a button and a hinged buckle are attached.

The outside of each spur is stamped with a crowned letter P on one side, which I believe may be the mark for the town of Dijon in France. There is also a maker's stamp "I.R.S" I have not been able to identify this maker.

Dimensions : 5½" (140mm) maximum length, not including buttons or buckles x 3" (76mm) wide, not including buttons ), 2" (50mm) neck, ½" (12mm) rowel
Weight : 219g (7½oz)
