A pair of beautifully made stirrups with a stylised shell on each side of the tread. The shell is a common theme in the decoration of horse trappings, dating back to pilgrimages to places such as Santiago de Compostela, the scallop shell became a symbol of St. James and pilgrims. These stirrups are not stamped or marked, but appear to be silver. They are probably early twentieth Century and South American. These stirrups could be used today.
