A white metal "Conquistador" style stirrup. (More information about Conquistador stirrups here Stamped on its base with a knotted horn and the number 296, plus "Eberle" the maker and "Alpacca" the alloy of copper, nickel and zinc that the stirrup is made from. Eberle were a well known company of Brazilian silversmiths in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On its upper surface it bears a Brazilian emblem plus the legend "Estados Unidos do Brasil, 15 de Novembro de 1889" This decoration appears to have been applied by hand using a nail. The design is also seen on Brazilian cavalry bits and stirrups - this could have been a military stirrup or a souvenir.
