The shaft of this whip is made of whalebone covered in braided material. At the top of the whip there is a lens in an ivory frame,it is not a magnifying lens, I think it would have been carried like a monocle. Such lenses are sometimes called "quizzing lenses", they were used more to make a point in conversetion than to correct any optical problem. There are four ferrules of braided silver wire. The whip is in good condition, and still retains the remains of its silk lash.
