Swaine & Adeney Sidesaddle Whip with Ivory Dog Head Handle
This whip has an ivory finial, finely carved as a dog's head (it looks like a Staffordshire Bull Terrier to me). It has inset glass eyes. The whip has two gilded collars with engine turned decoration. The upper collar is engraved "Swaine & Adeney, London" and has the engraved initials "G.H.". The handle or grip of the whip is covered in braided whalebone.
The shaft of the whip is made of whalebone & covered in natural coloured catgut (the same material used in old violin strings and suture materials). The whip needs a new lash bound onto its end.
